It was Clemson who won the ACC and eventually the national championship in 2016, but it is Florida State whom the media believes will be on top of the conference in 2017.

Results for this year's ACC Preseason Football Poll were released on Monday, with UNC picked to finish fifth out of seven teams in the conference's Coastal Division after ending each of the last two seasons in either first or second. Of the 167 ballots submitted, 118 of them marked the Seminoles as the preseason favorites to win the conference.

BC was picked last in the Atlantic Division, trailing Florida State, Clemson, Louisville, NC State, Wake Forest, and Syracuse.

On the Coastal side, Miami was projected to win its first division crown.

Florida State is the preseason pick to win the Atlantic Coast Conference and reigning Heisman Trophy victor Lamar Jackson of Louisville is the preseason player of the year. The Louisville quarterback averaged 393.4 yards per game of total offense and had 51 touchdowns, which were both single-season records for the ACC.

The next highest finisher for conference player of the year was FSU quarterback Deondre Francois, who earned 23 votes.

Defensive tackle Nazair Jones chose to forego his final year of eligibility, and was taken in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks.

Clemson opens its season September 2 against Kent State.
