According to reports, Chelsea and West Ham are involved in a battle to sign Javier Hernandez.

That will be a blow to Slaven Bilic, who has been desperate to add to his striking options ahead of the new season, but appears to have hit a wall in every target he has gone after.

West Ham suffered quite a poor season last time out and will be hoping to make big improvements in the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Bakambu, who was also rumoured to be getting interest from Newcastle United also, bagged 11 goals for Villarreal last season as the El Madrigal outfit finished fifth in La Liga.

While goals seemingly caught the attention of some top clubs, the striker's future remains at the Spanish club.

West Ham are looking at completing a £13 million move for Hernandez, which would see the Mexican forward earn an eye-watering £145,000-a-week salary at the London Stadium.

The Irons have been one of the least active Premier League teams in the transfer window so far, with local rivals Tottenham the only club to not secure a new signing.

Interest in the likes of Arsenal's Olivier Giroud and Manchester City's Kelechi Iheanacho has since ended.

The Hammers are desperate to improve their attacking options this summer and have already made several failed moves for strikers, but have had better success in their pursuit of Mexico global Hernandez.
