Harry also reflected on the importance of capturing a complex event in history for cinema-goers across the world: "All of history is why we are where we are. While you're down there filming and acting out the scene, you're also thinking, "I can not breathe for much longer than this" which obviously helps the situation", he said.

The 23-year-old singer makes his movie debut in Christopher Nolan's new wartime epic and though he admits he damaged his wrist and saw "stuff" fall on his head during filming, he didn't think his aches and pains were serious enough to complain about in comparison to what others working on the project had happen to them.

"/ / 2018.TOUR / /", he captioned a photo of a handwritten note that said, "I can't wait to see you..."

"It's hard to know what to expect walking into an environment like that and it was awesome", enthused Styles. "You walk on set the first day and get taken aback by everything".

"[Nolan] never makes you feel like you have to try too hard". There is a lot of bad stuff that happens in the world right now. In terms of first-day memories, we finished one shot and he said, "congrats on your first close-up". "But there are a lot of good people doing a lot of good things as well".

Harry Styles didn't know what part he was auditioning for when he first tried out for Dunkirk.

This special edition of The Big Issue is out now, and available from vendors across the UK.
