Playing the final hole in regulation-a 586-yard par 5-Shinkwin was left of the putting surface in two shots, with a bunker between him and the flag.

And encouraging Dodt over the last few holes on the final day at Dundonald was 1995 Scottish Open victor, Wayne Riley, who was working as a course commentator for SKY Sports. I think I was overdue.

Cabrera Bello hit his own approach to within 10 feet, and while he missed his eagle attempt by a few inches, his tap in birdie was enough as Shinkwin narrowly failed to get up and down.

Pavon, 24, is a Challenge Tour graduate and European Tour rookie with two top-10 finishes this year - at the Portugese Open (third) and the Nordea Masters (sixth).

"I've won before and I have been up there so many, many times, but things have not really worked out for myself", he confirmed.

"No. 12 was about as tough as I've ever seen in terms of wind and rain", Poulter said, holding a cup of tea to warm his hands.

"If I were to qualify for The Open my wife and I will be glad to change the holiday in NY and head south instead to Birkdale", he smiled.

"It's been a very good week", he said.

DeChambeau overcame a four-stroke deficit to beat Rodgers by a stroke for his first PGA Tour title - and a spot next week in the British Open. "Obviously a few months back, things were pretty hard, but life's a little bit easier right now and obviously I'm enjoying my golf". Seeking his third major win of the year, the 59-year German had a one-shot lead before dropping his tee shot in the water on No. 17.

Padraig Harrington fired a superb 66 to lie joint fourth on eight under.

"I have played all the course on the Open rota and Royal Birkdale has always been my favourite Open venue because of 2008 and I'm looking forward to competing there", he said.

Hopefully, Shinkwin will get over his 15 minutes of madness and draw on all the brilliant golf he played.

Matthieu Paven posted a six-under 66 on Sunday to end up solo third at 10-under-par and secure the other spot at Royal Birkdale next week along with Shinkwin and Dodt, with Dodt having to cancel the trip to NY he'd planned with his wife to take up his spot at his first major tournament.

Sung Hyun Park won the U.S. Women's Open on Sunday for her first LPGA Tour victory. As it was, he finished in a share of 19th place at Dundonald, on a four-round total of five-under-par. "It might be the only time I get the chance to defend the Open, so I intend to make the most of it". There's a lot at stake tomorrow and obviously I'm going to do my best.
