Longitude issues apology over problems with queues

Pictures posted to social media by concertgoers indicated crowding at the barriers, with delays of up to an hour.

"The opening hour of Friday's entry was not what I wanted", said Festival Republic's Melvin Benn yesterday.

Organisers have this morning apologised for what happened but said they had urged those attending to arrive as early as possible.

"However, every single person caught up in the shock of the uncomfortable start was able to continue to the concert and enjoy the day despite that. As you would anticipate, my teams have worked throughout the night to improve the entry for today and tomorrow everyone can enjoy Longitude at its best".

It's already been announced that large bags and backpacks will not be allowed in to the festival, and only small bags measuring no bigger than A4 (8.27in/21cm x 11.7in/29.7cm) will be permitted into the event. If you are heading to the Longitude festival over the weekend then you'll need to take note of a Met Eireann warning that is advising revellers of increasing temperatures and a high sunburn index.

Tonight's headline act The Weekend will be supported by 2016 Mercury Music Prize victor Skepta.
