Lonzo Ball Explains Why He's Been Playing in Kobes and Hardens

Lonzo's dad, LaVar Ball, told ESPN that Lonzo is "making a statement to the brands of what they could have had with an open mind". On Wednesday, Ball started off the same way, but once the Lakers fell behind he started doing what he needs to do to be successful in the National Basketball Association, he finished at the rim.

If there's such thing as a coming out party in the summer league, that's what Lonzo Ball had Wednesday night.

Ball suffered the injury in the third quarter and departed with 6 minutes, 26 seconds remaining in the third quarter of the Lakers' 108-98 semifinal win. If you watch him as he's getting the ball out of bounds, his head is already surveying what's going on in front of him. "He obviously had a very special game too and he's a very special player".

The guard, and all that surrounds him, is polarizing. He has been on another level with Lonzo Ball during Summer League and the hope is that the chemistry put on display continues. After scoring just eight points before halftime, he finished with a game-high 36 points (12 for 22 from the field, 3 for 10 from three, 9 for 12 from the line).

After dropping their first two games of pool play, the Lakers have won five straight to make an unlikely push to the final day of summer league. Kuzma is averaging 20.5 ppg in Summer League. And despite that incredibly small sample, he shot almost 10 percent better in games he started as opposed to games he came off of the bench. I like him better than Jason Kidd...he's just such an uplifting dude on the court, man. Boy has that changed quickly. With Lonzo's Las Vegas success, maybe now all of the disgruntled fans that cursed L.A.'s front office for trading D'Angelo Russell can see the Lakers bet right.

The Lakers were winless going into Monday's game, but it seems like they will have added momentum going into tonight's game after a thrilling victory and now the return of Lonzo Ball to floor.

For years, there's been talk about a bright future for the Laker. Ball and Ingram's ability to create offense should also give Caldwell-Pope the opportunity to improve his 3-point shooting. The team has not had a major makeover but their two most important positions may have been given the upgrade need to reach the next level.

The Los Angeles Lakers have suffered a big blow as Lonzo Ball won't be suiting up in the championships match.
