Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to open an auto manufacturing plant in world's auto capital-Detroit-this year, becoming the first Indian vehicle maker to do so in the US. The company has deployed $1.5 billion in the United States to generate $2.5 billion revenue, employing 3,000 people, added the report. The company is targeting doubling these figures in next two or three years.

With setting up of this plant this fiscal year, M&M will become the first Indian company to do so.

The automaker also plans to hire 3,000 people for its United States greenfield auto manufacturing plant. "That's a major milestone where an Indian automotive company is opening up manufacturing in a resurgent Detroit".

The ET report also cites Mahindra managing director Pawan Goenka, revealing company's decision to go slow in the initial phase. So we won't be mass producing in the beginning. "These categories of vehicles are unique to the USA, but are not approved for the highways", Goenka was quoted as saying.

"I believe America will be one of the most rewarding places to invest. Trump's policies on immigration which have been criticised will play out with negative consequences nearly five-ten years later but it doesn't take away the attractiveness of America", Mahindra told ET, adding "We are talking about doubling our $1.5 billion bet over the next two-three years".
