Alvaro Morata made his first appearance for Chelsea as they continued their pre-season preparations with a 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday.

Chelsea chief coach Antonio Conte on Monday said forward Pedro Rodriguez had sustained multiple fractures to his face and his injuries were more serious than was earlier believed.

The Premier League champions eventually found the target courtesy of a fine strike from Alonso, who thumped the ball past Starke after being teed up by Victor Moses.

Morata only signed for the Premier League champions on Friday but came off the bench in Singapore and set up Chelsea's second for Michy Batshuayi. He is working very hard with us in the pre-season.

The Spanish worldwide striker signed for Chelsea from Real Madrid in a deal reported to be worth up to 80 million euros ($92m) last week, and climbed off the bench with about 30 minutes remaining of the match.

Morata was finally introduced for his unofficial Chelsea "debut" in the 63 minute, playing on the left of a front three with the game all but won by their opponents.

The Spain global was given a 27-minute run-out in the National Stadium in Singapore and Conte was pleased with his contribution.

Bayern Munich also played in China, when they faced Arsenal in Shanghai.

"I can't wait to play at Stamford Bridge to see all the supporters and to play with the Chelsea shirt".

The debate is already fiercely underway: United and Chelsea fans bickering over who has the better striker, whilst simultaneously pointing out the fact that each fanbase slated the striker they ended up signing when it appeared they would be heading to a rival club.

"Our start wasn't good but the players showed me a great will to try to change the result", Conte said in his post-match press conference. "Morata is a young player who has a lot of experience in his career because he played with two big teams in Real and Juventus", said Conte.

Inter Milan are the other team involved in the tournament and they will play Bayern on Thursday before rounding out the competition against Chelsea on Saturday.
