Former Wimbledon runner-up Garbine Muguruza breezed through to the fourth round with victory over Sorana Cirstea.

Muguruza became the first Spanish woman to reach the Wimbledon title match in 19 years when she was beaten by Serena Williams in the 2015 final. "This kind of feeling", said the 2016 French Open champion.

Kerber, who is hoping to become the first German to win the Wimbledon title since Steffi Graf in 1996, has endured a hard first week at this year's championships and needed three sets to see off Shelby Rogers in the third round.

Cirstea, the world number 63, cut a subdued figure as she returned to singles action following the horrific knee injury suffered by her opponent Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the previous round on Thursday.

Seventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russian Federation eased through to the last 16 with a routine 6-4 6-0 victory over Slovenia's Polona Hercog. She served up a second-set bagel to seal a straight sets 6-4, 6-0 win over Slovenia's Polona Hercog.
