Yup, the hot version of Volvo's Audi SQ5 and Merc-AMG GLC 43 rival just a little bit hotter.

The top-spec T8 petrol-hybrid version of the new Volvo XC60, will produce 421bhp after the Polestar treatment - 21bhp more than the standard auto.

The maximum output figures might not be vastly more than standard, but Polestar has worked to improve the engine's mid-range performance so that its performance is more usable rather than creating headlines.

"The new XC60 has provided us with an excellent base to work on with a dynamic chassis and a state of the art powertrain". A gear-hold function also maintains the same gear when cornering with high lateral g-force in order to avoid unsettling the balance of the vehicle.

The new Volvo XC60 hasn't been around in the United Kingdom for long, but Volvo is keeping the sale momentum going not only with some well-judged "Human" PR for their new SUV, but now with Polestar Optimisation options across the range. In a Volvo XC60.

Thanks to the performance hike, the XC60 T8 also now jointly holds the title of most powerful Volvo ever, along with the larger XC90 T8. Expect more fastness from this.

The company will soon be re-launched as a separate brand producing high-performance electric cars, but now develops factory approved add-on enhancements. Its cars will no longer feature Volvo badges, and - as per Volvo's mainstream line-up - will offer electrification across the board.

The latest generation XC60 SUV, which was internationally unveiled only recently, has now received a "Polestar Powertrain Optimization".
