Reliance Jio hacked: In a major setback to Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries today, it has been revealed that its new telco arm Reliance Jio database has been hacked.

In what seemed to be the biggest data breach in India, a nondescript website called magicapk reportedly had access to data of over 120 million Reliance Jio users. The website gave out details like first name, last name, mobile number, email-id, circle, SIM Activation Date and even Aadhaar Number.

The breach was first reported by after it was informed of the same by readers.

The "Adhaar" number, which works on similar lines as Social Security numbers in the US, is unique to every Indian citizen and stores biometric and demographic data of the user at a centralised database.

Around 11.40 pm, with more queries coming in, the site seemed to have gone offline, and around 12.45 the site had been suspended completely.

The site that we checked or where the Jio subscriber details were leaked looks like a very ordinary portal with a search box asking you to search your number. The Aadhar and email numbers were blank for this number, though Fonearena has put out at least three numbers for which Aadhaar and emails were available on the page.

It remains unclear who is behind the alleged breach, though the IP address behind the website is Mumbai-based, according to public information on domain registrars.

Reports said that the site had been registered by domain provider on May 18, 2017 but provides no further details. It assured subscribers that their data with the company was safe. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. "We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken", the spokesperson said in a written response.

While the company is refusing the claims and calling it unauthentic, I personally verified the website with more than 20 numbers and the data was proper.
