On seven under (-7) going into the sixth hole par three, Fox lost his first ball before having to hit another off the tee.

Ryan Fox has hit the shot of the day off a provisional ball in a mixed final round of the Scottish Open in Troon.

The flawless shot was still well worthy of celebration as a beaming Fox high-fived his caddy and playing partner on the walk to the green. "It was pretty cool to be able to do that today", Fox said after his round.

"I can't lie, I hit the first one straight out of the hosel [socket of the club head] and straight in the bushes and re-teed it with a wedge and hit a ideal shot". "I don't think anyone saw it, thankfully, I think it landed in a nice big gorse bush".

Fox has finished tied for the fourth at the Scottish Open at Dundonald Links after a final round two-under 70 to take home 223,241 euros. Cabrera Bello eventually defeated Shinkwin in a playoff.

Fox shared fourth place in a five man group including Ireland's Padraig Harrington.

It is Fox's third top 10 finish in three weeks on the tour and see the Kiwi hit 14th on the 2017 Race to Dubai money list with a total of NZ$1.28m.

His performance also lifted him into the top 100 of the Official World Golf rankings for the first time.
