Shikhar Dhawan replaces injured Murali Vijay for Test series in Sri Lanka

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan will replace injured Murali Vijay for the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka from July 26.

Dhawan did show form in the lone T20I that India played against West Indies, but the opener failed to convert his 12 ball 23 into a big score.

BCCI, in a press release stated that Vijay "has complained of pain in his right wrist while playing a preparatory match". He last played a Test match for India in 2016 against New Zealand.

The BCCI medical team has advised Vijay to continue his rehabilitation program. He has four hundreds to his credit in an accumulated 1464 runs. He was alo not considered for five-match Test series against England but made a comeback in the limited-overs series. Shikhar Dhawan came into the series on the back of some stunning form in the Champions Trophy, he struggled to get going in the Caribbean after the first couple of games.

India's tour of Sri Lanka will comprise of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one-off T20. This is the first time the two countries will be playing a full series (includes all three formats) in eight years. All the three Test matches will be played in Galle, Colombo and Kandy. The Virat Kohli-led Team India departs for a full-fledged tour consisting three Tests, five ODIs and a one-off T20 worldwide on July 19. However, India managed to win the four-Test series 2-1 to end the home season unbeaten.
