Powering the production model of the Tata Nexon is a 1.2-litre (1,198cc) three-cylinder Revotron turbocharged petrol engine producing 108.5bhp at 5,000rpm and 170Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000rpm. Now, the company is all set to bring in their compact crossover Nexon around the festive season this year.

On the other hand, the 1.5-litre diesel motor is completely new and has been tuned for 108 bhp at 3750 rpm and 260 Nm of torque between 1500-2750 rpm.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, "To introduce this all new SUV into the market, we are not leaving any stone unturned".

Both the powertrains will come with three driving modes: Eco, City and Sport. The Nexon will also be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, to begin with.

First showcased as a concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, its dimensions in production-ready guise will be similar to that of the concept. The new engines are claimed to lightweight and low on friction, delivering high performance and fuel economy.

While the Revotron engines will be manufactured at the Sanand facility, the Revotorq engines will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility, the company added.

The manufacturer says both these engines have been designed at Tata's in-house facility in Pune, along with inputs from suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahale and Honeywell.

"Both these engines have been designed and developed after extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains", he said. The Revotron engine will be manufactured at the Sanand facility while the Revotorq engine will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility. Expect Tata to price the Nexon SUV aggressively in the region of Rs 7-10 lakh.

The Nexon will take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza, both being popular contenders in the sub-four-metre compact SUV segment.
