Russian women's doubles pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina thrashed Chan Hao-ching and Monica Niculescu in the final of the the Wimbledon Tennis Championships here.

The second seeded Russian combine on Saturday eased to a 6-0, 6-0 mauling of the ninth seeded Taiwan-Romanian pair.

"It's very special", Vesnina told Wimbledon's official website. She also won the French Open a year ago.

While it is Vesnina and Makarova's maiden Wimbledon title, they are also the reigning women's doubles Olympic champions.

"We were waiting for this title with Katia". We won French Open. We won it in 2013. The 23-year-old Spaniard upset the American veteran in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0.

With a light rain falling and the women's final between Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza due to start in about an hour, the roof over the main stadium has already been closed to ensure play will begin on time. "We need to finish it in the right way". It was an historical Wimbledon women's doubles final in some ways, as only in 1953, before the Open Era, it happened that the other duo couldn't win any game in the last round of the event.
