Warning of thunder and hail showers for the Isle of Wight

The county has managed to miss most of the thunderstorms in recent weeks and the current yellow "be aware" warning covers a large section of the south-east so we may not see any adverse weather.

A Met Office spokesman said there was a "chance of localised flooding of homes, businesses and susceptible roads".

Power networks could also be disrupted by lightning and hail could be an additional hazard.

A severe weather warning has been issued for the London & South East England region, valid between 5pm on Tuesday and 8pm Wednesday. "Similarly, but very locally, hail may cause impacts".

As the week progresses, intense downpours associated with the thunderstorms may see 30mm of rain fall in just an hour in some areas, with 50mm expected over two or three hours.

This could lead to surface water flooding, particularly across urban areas.
