Not only did the first ever feature-length, live-action Wonder Woman film manage to garner universally positive reviews from both critics and fans alike, but the Patty Jenkins-directed superhero flick has also gone down as one of the most financially successful comic book movies ever made.

Warner Bros. and DC Comics bosses are expected to announce a release date for a Wonder Woman sequel at Comic-Con, which begins on Wednesday (19Jul17). Wonder Woman is an unqualified success, and the news just continues to get better. If things don't go "as planned", it could be inferred that Jenkins hasn't yet signed the dotted line.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, domestic box office intake for Wonder Woman has surpassed 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the final film in the Harry Potter franchise, which earned $381 million during its release. THR does not account for inflation but they do refer to Wonder Woman as the studio's "tentpole" four times.

Meanwhile, original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter has revealed she is open to making a guest appearance in the sequel.

In Wonder Woman, before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior.

Warner Bros. hasn't commented officially on the sequel to Wonder Woman, but rumors are already swirling concerning where and when the movie will take place and who the villains may be. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Connie Nielsen, and Elena Anaya.
