The Equalizer 2 will be the first direct sequel Denzel Washington has starred in during his long and distinguished career, and Fuqua was originally preparing to direct a reboot of the crime film Scarface before leaving that project and returning to continue this story.

The original The Equalizer film was based on the 1980s TV series of the same name, and despite mixed reviews, became a big hit at the box office, raking in more than $192 million worldwide.

Pedro Pascal is signing on to join the cast of Equalizer 2, according to Variety!

Pascal plays Javier Peña on the Netflix series "Narcos" and previously starred as Oberyn Martell on HBO's "Game of Thrones". The actor will be next seen in "Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle".

Here's the official poster for The Equalizer 2, showing Denzel Washington's Robert McCall in a repertory temperamental state that pretty much guarantees the destruction of a new criminal organization who have the temerity to bring their brand of exploitation into his orbit.

Fuqua will be directing the sequel from a script written by Richard Wenk, who previously collaborated with the filmmaker on his remake of The Magnificent Seven past year. "The Equalizer 2", is set for release on September 14, 2018 and will begin production in the fall.
