The most recently released trailer places the season on election night in 2016.

The first full-length trailer for American Horror Story: Cult has arrived, and it's confirmed what's always been speculated - that this new, seventh season will indeed be based around last years United States presidential election.

AHS stalwart Sarah Paulson plays Ally Mayfair-Richards, a MI mother who appears to lose her mind after Donald Trump's surprise win at the 2016 presidential election.

Following the election, Ally is plagued by her phobia of clowns, eventually confronting her fear through violent means.

Ally and her wife Ivy (Alison Pill) hire a babysitter (Billie Lourd), who makes matters worse by giving their son a figurine of Twisty the Clown.

American Horror Story: Cult premieres on September 5 in the US.

Not featured in the clip are previously announced cast members, Colton Haynes, Billy Eichner, Emma Roberts, and Lena Dunham.
