In a "question and answer" format, he posted a transcript of a conversation he had with the Head of Product at OnePlus to talk about why updates to the OxygenOS skin have slowed way down.

The OnePlus 3 and 3T are two praise-worthy smartphones by OnePlus.

OnePlus also announced that it will be shifting its open beta program to the recently launched OnePlus 5 once Android O is released for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. OnePlus has officially confirmed that Android O or Android 8 would be the last major OS update for last year's variant of OnePlus i.e. OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T. However, the company remains committed to providing security updates for the foreseeable future.

At the rate phones are being released, it is safe to say that companies tend to stretch themselves too thin which is when when it comes to Android updates, many companies pick and choose which devices they want to focus on, and more often than not after a couple of years, you can kiss goodbye to said updates. We'll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates.

Tinkerers need not worry, since there are bound to be custom ROMs for the OnePlus 3/3T due to their popularity in the ROM community.

While the OnePlus 3 is fairly old at this point (in terms of smartphone shelf-life at least), the OnePlus 3T is just nine months old and many buyers will be a little miffed at this news.

As it pertains to the latest security and OxygenOS updates, the August patch will come out before the OxygenOS 4.5 update.
