Per Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports, the football team has suspended seven players for the upcoming game, including receiver Antonio Callaway.

In addition to Callaway, junior DE Keivonnis Davis, freshman OL Kadeem Telfort, redshirt freshman DL Jordan Smith, sophomore DL Richerd Desir-Jones, freshman LB Ventrell Miller and freshman LB James Houston will all sit against the Wolverines on September 2.

The biggest blow here is obviously the loss of Callaway, who is one of Florida's most risky weapons on offense, accounting for 721 yards and three touchdowns, along with 218 yards returned.

In May, Callaway was cited for a marijuana charge. "We will use this as a learning opportunity and we will have some players step up as we move forward". He was suspended from the team, along with former quarterback Treon Harris, in January 2016 in the wake of a sexual assault claim made against the two. According to the Tampa Bay Times, a second Title IX investigation by the federal government has been opened and it appears to be releated to Callaway's case at the school. He had 1,399 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last season. He was also the Gators' primary punt returner.

The suspended players will hope to be able to return for the team's second game, which comes against Northern Colorado on September 9.

The Gators will open their season September 2 against the Wolverines at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He had 45 catches for 387 yards a year ago.
