At least 15 people have been martyred and dozens wounded - some of them critically - in a bomb attack on a military truck in a high-security neighbourhood of Quetta on Saturday night. "Our resolve won't succumb to any challenge", DG ISPR Major-General Asif Ghafoor posted on Twitter. The high intensity blast occurred in a parking lot near Pishin bus stop which is in a high security area in the provincial capital Quetta.

"We can now confirm that 15 people have died in the explosion today". It said the injured were taken to the Combined Military Hospital where some of them were in critical condition.

Casualties were also confirmed by rescue and hospital sources.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that an on-duty security vehicle was targeted in the blast, adding that 10 security officials were also among those injured in the attack. "At least 32 others are wounded", Balochistan home minister Sarfraz Bugti said.

Balochistan Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said the deceased include officials of security force and civilians.

According to eyewitness, cited by reports, one of the vehicles exploded at Pishun Stop, which led to fire erupting in other vehicles passed side-by-side.

The area was cordoned off following the blast, with a high-level search operation being initiated. The dead and injured were rushed to Civil Hospital Quetta. A large contingent of security forces also reached the spot.

The blast was so huge that all the cars parked in the area caught fire, raising fears of a heightened death toll.

Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa condemned the terrorist attack on the army truck in Quetta which he called "an attempt to mar Independence Day festivity" in the country.
