The communist country says it's finalizing plans to launch missiles near Guam sometime in August.

Following North Korea's announcement that it is "carefully examining" plans to launch a missile attack on Guam, lawmakers in Alaska - which is closer to the rogue nation than other parts of the USA - are expressing concern about an attack on their state.

This is published unedited from the PTI feed.

Guam is home to key military bases and 160,000 Americans.

"There is no threat to our island or the Marianas", he said in a video message, adding that Guam is part of the United States and that the military and first responders will be ready should an attack occur.

"They're not going to make an out of the blue strike against the U.S., Japan, Guam or South Korea because they know that's national suicide", said Daryl Kimball, Executive Director, Arms Control Association.

Trump continues, "This is between you and I, but you don't talk like they talk, you can't do that, and you can't do that with people like us". "I just wanted to call and say hello".

But Mistry said the focus should now be on getting out of the shouting match.

He continued, "My Homeland Security advisor, who is in communication with Homeland Security and the Department of Defense, notes that there is no change in the threat level resulting from North Korean events".

Near the end of the call, Calvo invites Trump for a visit.

The call came hours after Trump issued fresh threats of swift and forceful retaliation against North Korea, declaring the US military "locked and loaded" and warning that the communist country's leader "will regret it fast" if he takes any action against USA territories or allies. After shrieking that US bomber flights to South Korea were also unacceptable provocations, the North Korean military threatened to use its "treasured nuclear sword" to "reduce to ashes Seoul" and "sweep Guam, the base of provocations, from the surface of the earth". Both of these factors were specifically cited by the North Korean military spokesman who delivered the missile threat to Guam. Frankly, you could've said that for the last three presidents.
