The two clubs were someway apart in their valuation of the Argentina Under-20 worldwide and it looked like he might go to Paris Saint-Germain when they entered the race for his signature.

However, with Spurs enduring a sticky start to the Premier League season, Pochettino has splashed the cash to land the highly-rated youngster.

However, Foyth is instead poised to join Tottenham, who were linked with him earlier in the transfer window.

The 19-year-old told El Dia: "It's a club that bets on the young and I think I'm going to have a chance to play".

PSG had been interested, but Mauricio Pochettino proved the difference.

Spurs targeted 19-year-old Foyth in June, but their interest cooled after Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron - a former worldwide teammate of Pochettino - upped the asking price following interest from Paris Saint-Germain. It's what helped me decide that Tottenham was the right place to continue my career.

It's time for the Daily Juan Foyth, and unfortunately there aren't the "Foyth leaves Argentine airport" images we'd hope to bring from the South American media, but there's plenty of good news nonetheless.

"He told me to go, train and that I would be involved I would play. He also told me what the club is like".

Tottenham have won one, drawn one and lost one of their three Premier League games so far this season, and are still winless at Wembley after Chris Wood equalised late on for Burnley on Sunday.
