Everything is different for Chelsea ahead of this Premier League season

Should Mourinho manage to pull off the seemingly impossible and sign the attacking winger, this may well be the missing link which United are looking for to help them lift the Premier League title this season.

The club reacted with a glut of new signings - three new full-backs in Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo, plus goalkeeper Ederson and playmaker Bernardo Silva - and now look a force to be reckoned with.

"Until we've got players that go out and play at top clubs in Spain, Italy, France, then I feel we are always going to be behind".

The players Mourinho most needs, even if he still doesn't have everything he wants.

"It's going to be tough, very tough".

"The last six or seven years Manchester City didn't buy full backs". There's a gulf between Albion and City.

But the Belgium global is fit again and, with City yet to sign central defensive reinforcements, he needs to be available as much as possible.

"We have added three players, one defender, one midfielder and one attacking player", the Portuguese boss explained.

"I don't think I'm in a position of crying, moaning, protesting". We are strong defensively and I predict 1-1.

You've got to understand what the club is all about. Back in 1979, when we made the same step-up, we lost 4-0 at home to Arsenal.

The pressure is on Alvaro Morata to make an immediate impact as Chelsea's first-choice striker, as he seeks to replace Diego Costa, who is not in the plans of manager Antonio Conte. But then we won at Nottingham Forest (who were then European champions), gained some confidence, put some runs together, and finished well clear of the relegation zone.

That slowly changes as the season got into gear and they may hold a favourites tag but this will be a very tight contest this season with the depth of title candidates expanding a little from previous years in my opinion. It wasn't. The team scored 54 goals in the Premier League and with a squad that included Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Paul Pogba. "That is the top (and only) priority, and the club will do all it can to achieve that". I'm sure Chris will know the key for any newly-promoted team is how you do at home.

Brighton have been busy in the transfer market themselves since securing promotion from the Championship after two excellent seasons for Chris Hughton's team.

He thinks he can do more.

Such absentees means the United boss does not believe they have advanced hugely compared with this time previous year, but he retains hope of making a fourth summer signing. Our levels of confidence and knowledge are higher so I am happy to start the season.

And while that should change with him playing with much better players at Manchester United, if Lukaku beats his best career scoring output by two goals, he would simply be replacing the 28 goals in all competitions Zlatan Ibrahimovic gave the team past year.

"Normally the second season should be better than the first, but again, this is modern football".
