Arsene Wenger's inspired changes paid dividends, though, as Ramsey levelled things up and then two minutes later Giroud turned the game completely on its head as Arsenal ended their opening-game hoodoo.

In the league's first Friday night start, Arsene Wenger's side was trailing 3-2 with seven minutes remaining but Ramsey grabbed the equaliser and Giroud headed in an 85th-minute victor.

Arsene Wenger is relieved Olivier Giroud opted to stay at Arsenal this summer after the striker scored the victor in Friday's Premier League opener against Leicester.

Vardy got a 2nd and Leicester's 3rd to move into the lead for the second time but substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud paid the faith handed in them by their manager scoring in the 83rd and 85th minute respectively to hand Arsenal their first PL win of the new season.

Lacazette almost had his second of the night just minutes later, but Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel turned the shot aside, but Giroud beat the Dane with an exquisite header on the ensuing corner to give Arsenal the 4-3 victory.

Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head a late victor after Aaron Ramsey had brought Arsenal level at 3-3 following a Jamie Vardy double for the visitors. Instead, Wenger avoided a third successive season-opening loss at the start of his new two-year contract. I opened the door for him because I know it's important for him to play but I don't want him to go.

Giroud had been linked with an exit during the summer, and Wenger admitted he considered allowing his most authentic target man to leave but the 30-year-old resisted the idea.

Asked if Giroud could still leave before the transfer window closes on August 31 until January, Wenger replied: "No". "If you look at that from a neutral point, for a first game it was a top quality game". I know how important he is not only as a player but also in the group he has a big weight.

"It's simple, in every game he is stronger since he joined us", Wenger said.

"We went for a win and we deservedly earned it".

"I'm happy the goals we conceded we can work on together".
