The remains of Tropical Storm Harvey, which are scattered over Mexico, have a 90% chance of developing into a cyclone over the next two days, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said August 22.

Here is the latest spaghetti plot for the remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey that's heading towards the Gulf of Mexico.

Hill Country Tribune meteorologist Conley Isom says the biggest threat with this system will be flooding.

Forecasters said some slow development of this system is possible during the next several days while it moves west-northwestward across the Bahamas and then turns northwestward or northward near Florida and the adjacent waters.

You may recall Tropical Storm Harvey that formed last week, just east of the Caribbean.

Another low pressure system is drenching south Florida with rain and will bring rain north as it coasts up the Florida peninsula.

The center said storm-related advisories could be re-issued on Wednesday for the coast of northeastern Mexico, Texas, and southwestern Louisiana.

Harvey could produce massive rain accumulations - 10 to 15 inches and up to 20 inches in some areas over the middle and upper Texas coast and southwest Louisiana through next Tuesday.

"Although some indicate a minimal impact, there are a few models we are tracking that show a stronger storm that could make landfall at South Padre Island", City Manager Susan Guthrie said in a statement. Texas may get over two feet of rain from the tropical system.

The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast near and to the northeast of the landfall location, where the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves. It since has re-emerged over the Gulf of Mexico and re-strengthened to a tropical depression. That means it could dump a lot of rain on parts of Texas and Louisiana and raise flooding concerns.

If, however, the cold front stalls near or north of our area, Harvey may move closer to Central Texas and potentially provide anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of rain through early next week.
