Himachal: Two killed, four rescued after landslide hits Mandi

One of the buses was going from Manali to Katra and another from Manali to Chamba. Five injured persons were taken to a hospital.

"The army and NDRF have been called while police, home guard and fire services have already been deployed in the rescue and relief operation", Kadam said. Eight bodies have been recovered, including the driver and the conductor of Chamba depot Chanden Sharma and Satpal, respectively. The landslide hit Himachal Pradesh's Mandi on Saturday where four people were rescued from the debris. People present on the spot said the rescue operation was affected by rains.

In another landslide reported on Saturday at Dwara on Chandigarh-Manali highway, two people were injured when the debris fell on a moving auto.

Deputy Commissioner of Mandi, Sandeep Kadam had confirmed the death of two people and stated "three vehicles were stranded after the landslide".

Due to frequent landslides travelling by road in Himachal is risky especially along the Chandigarh-Manali national highway between Pandoh-Aut stretch, along Pathankot-Mandi national highway between Jogindernagar and Mandi stretch and along Chandigarh-Shimla highway especially between Parwanoo and Solan.
