The Denver senior citizen pushed the emergency button twice but help never came.

Isaak Komisarchik's body was discovered last week in his parking garage after residents reported a terrible smell.

Numerous Woodstream residents complained to managers of a strong odor emanating from the garage area but nothing was done.

Isaak Komisarchik was reported missing on July fifth. Between the morning of July 6 and August 2, Komisarchik is believed to have died after he was unable to escape an elevator, possibly because of dementia.

The body of 82-year-old Isaak Komisarchik was found decomposing in an elevator shaft that was closed for renovations, The Denver Post reported.

Police told Denver 7 ABC that MEI had contacted Woodstream's management after receiving the help calls from the elevator, but that Woodstream workers only checked the two elevators in the apartment building and did not check the parking garage elevator, which was being renovated.

The city's elevator code mandates that elevator operators monitor emergency notifications at all times.

Authorities determined that Komisarchik pushed the emergency button twice on July 6 at 9.09am and 9.17am, and got no response. A phone or intercom system labeled "Help" is also mandatory within elevators.

The Denver Post reported that the garage elevator at Woodstream Village being last inspected in December and found to be in good working order.

Playing a possible part in authorities failure to initially discover the missing man was the fact at the time of Komisarchik's disappearance, the parking-garage where Isaak was found had been closed for renovation.

The elevators at the apartment complex are monitored by MEI Total Elevator Solutions monitors. Greystar Management Services is investigating, the company told CNN in a statement. The company is reportedly cooperating with local law enforcement officials and their investigation into Komisarchik's death.

Family members recalled how Komisarchik vanished just days after they last saw him. "He couldn't take long walks".

"He actually walked to the mailbox to pick up the mail and to the office to get some things from there and then he just disappeared", daughter Yelena told 9 News last month. She added that Komisarchik would sometimes get disoriented.

Isaak Komisarchik was found dead in an elevator one month after he went missing.

When a Denver firefighter responded, the elevator doors were open.

The cause of Komisarchik's death has not yet been determined, as officials said it's hard to determine when a body is badly decomposed.
