Matic is a 'gross loss' for us, admits Chelsea boss Conte

"Tiemoue Bakayoko was very impressive a year ago, he's very physical".

Nemanja Matic is confident that Romelu Lukaku will score plenty of goals for Manchester United this season following his strike against Real Madrid.

The Serb, a key component in the Blues' two Premier League title triumphs in the past three seasons, joined United in a surprise £40 million move last month.

"He's a huge signing", Gerrard said on BT Sport of Matic.

"I'm sure this lad (Matic) will help him even more". "You saw that in the UEFA Super Cup game - he'll fit very well in there", Lampard said.

"I think if he keeps improving, he is going to be a serious signing".

"They are getting rid of players who are experienced and from who you know exactly what you're going to get".

Meanwhile, Mourinho praised Matic's display and the way United's new boys continue to settle into his "amazing group". "He needs to play regularly, he's a player I trust a lot".

"But you know in our good moment he was really good, especially in our period of dominance in the second half after the 2-0".

"In our period of dominance he was what we want him to be: to move the ball in a simple way, to give balance to the team, to start building from the back". He was good in some games, inexperienced in others.

Lukaku had earlier ballooned a shot over the crossbar with the goal gaping but reacted smartly to steer the ball home after Matic's effort had been parried by Keylor Navas.

"It is hard job to play against a team that dominates the possession - and he tried", Mourinho said of his striker.

"And I have no doubt that he has not sanctioned that move, he is not happy with it and ultimately he is uncomfortable with it".

Mourinho believes United's players - old and new - head into Sunday's Premier League opener against West Ham with "a positive feeling and great experience".

"We have Cesc Fabregas and we are trying to find another midfielder".
