Aurelio said the country may expect better weather conditions while Jolina, based on the PAGASA forecast track, is seen to make landfall over China on Sunday morning.

THE heavy downpours Cebu has been experiencing are expected to abate with the weakening of the southwest monsoon, declared the Mactan bureau of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), and thus, there will be less chances of rains.

Signal no. 1 is still up in Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, and Abra.

The center of "Jolina" was estimated at 120 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur as of 10 a.m.

Tropical storm "Jolina" (international name: Pakhar) has accelerated and intensified after passing through Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, the state weather bureau said on Saturday.

In its 11:00 a.m. severe weather bulletin yesterday, Pagasa said Jolina picked up speed and strength as it continued to move west northwest of Luzon.

What's the weather like in your area?

Light to moderate rains with possible occasional heavy rains due to thunderstorms may be expected over the rest of Luzon.

Marasigan said all the NDRRMC and all regional offices affected remain on "red alert", hours before the storm is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Saturday night.

Sea travel is risky over the seaboard of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.
