New York Jets Rumors: Jets Looking to Deal Matt Forte

A wave of the white flag has signaled the end of an era for a New York Jets team that has spent its offseason dumping marquee players to rebuild for the future.

If the Jets want to trade Forte, now would be the time as there are teams with Super Bowl aspirations that could use him.

It is confirmed that the younger Bilal Powell will be taking the lead role in the backfield this season so the Jets are likely trying to shed more money and put more focus on grooming Powell.

The Jets are rumored to be shopping the veteran running back despite signing him to a three-year deal worth $12 million just last year, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

Last year, even playing behind a bad offensive line on a team that featured little in the way of a passing attack, Forte managed to rush for 813 yards and seven touchdowns. There seemed to be veteran talent in every area of the lineup, but players did not perform up to expectations and the "Gang Green" subsequently tanked.

The Jets are as far from contenders as any team in the National Football League and Forte isn't going to be around long enough for the team to turn it around. Powell averaged 5.5 yards per carry.

The only real negative for the Jets is that trading Forte leaves the team with Powell and not much else at running back. The problem is, Forte's entire $4 million salary is guaranteed.

The New York Jets could also still receive something lucrative in return before the season starts as may not be the case once the season kicks off and his value possibly diminishes.
