"Well, he's acting more responsible than this guy".

Jeremy Corbyn-ally Chris Williamson said the US President was "playing into the hands of Kim Jong-un" with his response to threats of missiles being fired at the American territory of Guam. And what I'm telling you is once you start seeing missile launches, you're going to see-the time for cranking up the anti-war machine is right now.

In a short interview after the speech, Ellison dialed back the Kim-Trump comparison.

"I know people say the rhetoric wasn't stopping the advancement of their weapons, but we're tracking it and we have the technology to intercept", McCaskill said. "It's tailor-made for somebody to misuse".

"North Korea is a serious thing", the Minnesota Democrat said during a question-and-answer session at the progressive Netroots Nation conference in Atlanta on Friday.

"I subscribe to the Churchillian maxim of "jaw-jaw is always better than war-war" and given the consequences of a potential nuclear war, clearly, we do need to lower the temperature... rather than continuing in this rather bellicose way in which Donald Trump and indeed Kim Jong-un has been doing".

"What we need is someone bringing calm to the situation, not spiking it", he emphasized. A panel co-hosted by the American Civil Liberties Union brainstormed ways to respond if a military crisis broke out and the Trump administration were to respond by curtailing civil liberties. "So between that and Trump's promise to unleash fire and fury at North Korea, you could be forgiven for your confusion about whether you're listening to the fictional Daenerys Targaryen on "Game of Thrones" or the very real President of the United States".
