To be clear, these are the original versions of Gold and Silver as released back in 1999, not the updated Heart Gold and Soul Silver remakes available on DS some 10 years later.

Pokémon Gold and Silver will get a special boxed release for 3DS on 22nd September, Nintendo announced today. So far, the packaged versions have only been announced for Europe, and Nintendo hasn't confirmed whether they will contain anything besides a download code or how much they will cost. The packages will include a download code for their respective game and will be released the same day the game goes live on the Virtual Console, September 22. The boxes have a shiny finish, and the artwork features each of the titles' de facto mascots, the Legendary Lugia and the Legendary Ho-Oh. The Gold and Silver 3DS ports will take up 130 blocks of a Nintendo 3DS's memory.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see how many Pokemon fans flock to the physical iterations of Gold and Silver instead of simply downloading the titles directly through the eShop on the 3DS.
