Protesters call for Oakland demonstration against white supremacy

More protesters gathered to rally against the right-wing demonstrators.

One person has died and 34 more were injured after a vehicle plowed through a crowd of protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The car's driver, James Alex Fields Jr. was charged with second-degree murder and other counts.

Ivanka Trump tweeted on Sunday about the recent violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia by alt-right protesters stating that "There should be no place in society for racism, white supremacy and neo-nazis".

NY [U.S.A], August 13: United States President Donald Trump has condemned the hatred "on many sides" in response to the violent white nationalist protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, saying that "the hatred and division in the America must stop as we are all Americans first".

"So, after decades of White Americans being targeted for discriminated and anti-White hatred, we come together as a people, and you attack us?" he wrote.

The "Unite the Right" march was called to protest against plans to remove a statue of General Robert E Lee, who had fought for the pro-slavery Confederacy during the US Civil War.

"I have a message to white supremacists and nazis who came into Charlottesville today", Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said at a televised press conference on Saturday evening.

"Sometimes, there are people trying to sound self-righteous when really, the president made it extremely clear - all of us condemn this horrifying tragedy", Franks said. Later a helicopter responding to the violence crashed outside the city, killing two state police troopers.

US President Donald Trump who had condemned the violent events late on Saturday expressed condolences to those killed in Charlottesville. David Duke told reporters in Charlottesville that the rally was a turning point in fulfilling Trump's promise to take America back.

But many hit out at the President for not specifically mentioning white nationalists during his speech.
