Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson announced what was expected minutes ago: the team is rolling with rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer as its starter. Jackson officially picked Kizer over veterans Brock Osweiler and Cody Kessler on Sunday, saying he "earned the right".

"I thought he did some good things", Jackson said after the game. "We're going to get with DeShone and ride him through it all and work with him through all this". And I think we get that. I'm very proud of what I was able to show my teammates and the coaching staff throughout OTAs going back to day one when we were just given the playbook and how I mastered that. The answer to that question should be how the Browns move forward with Kizer.

"He has the right feel for me and for what I'm looking for", Jackson said Saturday after Kizer started and played the first half in a win over Tampa Bay.

Kizer may have won the job by default, but how long he keeps it is now squarely in his hands.

With Kizer now the official starting quarterback, the Browns may have no further use for Osweiler.

Indeed, Kizer has shined throughout the preseason, helping lead the Browns to three victories in as many tries.

Kizer said he respected Jackson and would continue working.

"When we drafted this young man, there was a objective in drafting him", Jackson said. Enjoy this moment. It's the sweet grace period between being named the starter and when the whole thing comes flying off the rails. "He made a play while on the move to Corey (Coleman) early, which was a third-down lovely play".

"He put the team in good situations to be successful". "Until I'm out there, everyone's gonna have a right to have an opinion". I think he gets that. "But around him we all have to do our jobs better, to better support him".

You Said It was created on the premise that the only thing Cleveland sports fans needed more than a championship was a sense of humor. He was third on the depth chart to open the preseason and beat the Saints with two fourth-quarter touchdown drives, including the winning 45-yard pass with 1:52 left. Kizer is probably better than Osweiler and Kessler, but that doesn't mean he's ready.

Kizer also displayed strong chemistry with wide receiver Corey Coleman, who appears poised for a breakout second National Football League season.

"I just haven't made that decision yet", Jackson said.
