Sisters set ablaze in sleep, teen hints at stalker role

While the motive behind the attack is still unknown, one of the two sisters claimed that the attack may have been by a stalker.

In an terrible episode, two sisters were set on fire by couple of obscure scoundrels late Friday night while they were dozing in their home in Nawabganj range of Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly area. One of the sisters has suffered 95 per cent burns while the other has suffered 60 per cent burns. When the attackers came inside and started pouring petrol on them and set them on fire.

The sisters were taken to the intensive care unit of the district hospital and their condition is reported to be critical. Meanwhile, Fiza and her elder sister, Gulshan, 19, have been shifted to King George Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow for better treatment. While Gulshan is said to be in a serious condition, Fiza has sustained 40 per cent burn injuries. A few people set my sister and me ablaze while we were thinking about a similar bed during the evening.

According to the younger sister Fiza after dousing them on fire the miscreants ran away and they couldn't identify their faces. "I don't know who did this. We have rounded up several youths in the past 24 hours, but we are yet to completely work out the case", SSP Kumar said.

The incident comes just days after a 17-year-old girl was murdered in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district by five boys of her village, who had reportedly been stalking her for months. A FIR has been enrolled for this situation and the police has framed a group to catch the culprits at the earliest opportunity.
