Clint Dempsey scored on a header in the 36th minute, and the Seattle Sounders stretched their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 1-0 victory against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday. The Houston Dynamo joined Seattle and Sporting KC on 37 points after a 3-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes.

The former Fulham star has netted 44 times for the club in MLS play, three times in the playoffs, twice in the CONCACAF Champions League and once in the U.S. Open Cup.

"That's what happens when you get on a streak like we're on", Dempsey said. "There are defining moments when a team has to dig deep and find a lot of character". The moments that stand out for me were being three-nothing down against New England and coming back. and being down versus D.C. United and coming back. "That helps with momentum".

Dempsey's goal was his team-leading 10th of the season and third in the last two games. After regaining control of the ball high on the right wing side, Morris took it toward the end line and floated a cross into the penalty area. Dempsey met it eight yards in front of the net and headed it into the back right corner past goalkeeper Tim Melia.

"It was a great ball from Jordan".

"The team moved mountains to get me here from playing at Tottenham, and I've been glad to chip in goals and help this team win and do some cool things", said Dempsey, reflecting on his 50 goal. "It was flawless pace. I don't have to do much, just redirect it a little bit".

Goalkeeper Stefan Frei picked up his fourth straight shutout, a club record.

Credit also belongs to a roster that has overcome injury troubles to allow for a consistent starting eleven, particularly a starting back four of Joevin Jones, Roman Torres, Chad Marshall, and recent signee Kelvin Leerdam, who has played all but four minutes of the record-breaking streak.

Peter Vermes on James Musa's @SportingKC debut: "The moment never got to him". The midfielder said the string of positive results was the outcome borne of a confident team. But we think the goalkeeper is the first attacker, and the striker is the first defender. "So we're all on the same page when we try to do something offensively and defensively". "We were good on the ball. I think the overall team performance in all of the statistical categories is something that that team really believes in". Carlos Rivas, with an assist from Kaka, put Orlando up 1-0 with his fifth goal in the 18th minute but an own goal by Leo Pereira leveled the game in the 30th minute. Other than that, I thought our game was good.

The Sounders had not defeated Kansas City since the 2014 season opener, going 0-4-2 and getting outscored 9-1 since then, including a 3-0 loss at Kansas City on May 17.
