Teen dies from cardiac arrest during football practice

14-year-old born Montserrat immigrant Dominick Bess is dead after collapsing during football practice at a Bronx, NY school, New York Police say.

Dominick Bess was headed into his freshman year at Mount Saint Michaels Academy, a Catholic, all-boys prep school in the northern part of the Bronx.

Police were investigating the young man's death and said the medical examiner would determine his cause of death.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Tuesday for noon, saying the combination of heat and humidity would make temperatures feel like 95 to 99 degrees.

Mayor Bill de Blasio expressed his condolences on Twitter and said that sports practices should be prohibited during heat waves.

A certified athletic trainer tried to revive him, and emergency personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital. An uncle says Dominick was outgoing, loving and an exceptional student. She says he was good at things ranging from math to baking cinnamon buns.

A 14-year-old boy died after collapsing during a non-contact football practice at a private Bronx school Tuesday morning, according to police and school officials.

According to the school's website, it has a grass football field and stands that seat up to 3,000 people.
