Woman shot in bedroom of her home in Rhawnhurst

The in ident happened just after midnight Saturday on the 8500 block of Summerdale Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia. Police say the 58-year-old woman heard a noise and got out of bed. She told police it was open.

Police said the suspect pulled out a gun and fired about seven times, hitting the victim in the back, and then fled in a red sedan.

The victim called 911 and was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital by responding officers.

The victim works as a security guard at a courthouse but had no previous issues that would draw attention or give reason for her to be targeted, Fuchs said.

Multiple people reported suspicious activity in the neighborhood in the last 24 hours.

According to police, there were two men in a van going door to door asking about a local vehicle mechanic, but it's unclear if the activities are related.
