South Korean forward Kim Sang-wook (C) battles Finnish players for the puck during the qualification playoff match in the men's hockey tournament of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics at Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, on Feb. 20, 2018.

The record will show that it was Canada's 22nd medal of these Pyeongchang Games but one that, in the immediate aftermath anyway, was weighted more in disappointment than accomplishment.

Liu skated with his younger brother, Liu Shaoang, along with Viktor Knoch and Csaba Burjan.

Although she didn't wear it during the ceremony or in interviews afterward, Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail reported an official from the Olympic Ice Hockey Federation talked to her and explained she can't "legally" refuse to wear the medal.

It wasn't the Miracle on Ice, exactly - but when the U.S. men's curling team squared up with their Canadian counterparts in the Olympic semifinal, few could have expected what happened next.

Larocque addressed the reason she refused to wear it with reporters.

Her fellow American Shiffrin pulled out after the alpine combined was brought forward to Thursday because of bad weather forecast for Friday, when is was originally scheduled to be raced. It was a masterful deke, using her shoulders and hands to send the all-world goalie staggering and scrambling as she tucked the puck home.

South Korea missed a good scoring chance right off the bat, as Michel Swift's shot went off the shoulder Finnish goalkeeper Mikko Koskinen in the opening minute.

At 33 she is the favourite for the prestigious race that will take place without Mikaela Shiffrin. No penalty was called on the play, making this perhaps the most glaring example of substandard officiating in a game that had its share of it for both teams.

Slovenian ice hockey player Ziga Jeglic failed a drugs test and has been banned from the Olympics, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said. Canada finished atop Group A at this year's Games with a perfect 3-0 record in the preliminary round.

In alpine skiing, American ace Lindsey Vonn completed her third training session and remained on course for a gold medal in Wednesday's downhill.

"If it is the end we are extremely pleased with that", said Moir.

In the immediate aftermath, the Canadians were felled by an incredibly potent mix of disappointment and frustration. They got lost in the game.

"We prepared the last four years to expect a game like that and we were ready this time". Then captain Canada and 2014 heroine Marie-Philip Poulin gave Canada its only lead of the game when she quick-released a beautiful Agosta pass into the top corner.

"We were floundering at the beginning, but once we played together as one team, we established camaraderie and we faced each other on a human level", she said.

Yet more Canadian glory looks on the cards after they and old rivals the United States booked their places in the final of the women's ice hockey tournament, scheduled for Thursday.
