American women beat Canada 3-2 in SO for gold

It was able to swoop in and take two points from the Canadian squad to go up 4-2 with two critical ends left. If in fact they do, Team USA is poised to be one of the top units in the tournament.

An elated Shuster pumped his fist in victory and the Americans whooped with joy.

Agosta took a break from the team in 2014 to join the Vancouver Police Department.

The U.S. has won three consecutive World Championships in 2015, 2016 and 2017. So before piling on and pontificating "sportsmanship", maybe just give Jocelyne Larocque a bit of time to be upset. "It's called 'Oops, I did it again'". I'm just glad it worked out this time.

The United States had three power plays in the first period with nothing to show for it, but in the waning minutes of the first Hilary Knight's deflection with the woman advantage gave the United States a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Although the manner of the loss was cruel enough, the pain was amplified by the fact that it had been two decades and four Olympics since Canadian women have experienced anything other than the joy of celebrating gold. The United Stated outlasted Finland while the Canadians dispatch the Olympic Athletes from Russia. The U.S. hockey player scored an epic shootout goal during the team's final game versus Canada.

"I would say we broke the curse today. I'm just so happy for our players".

Rooney, who had saved 29 of the 31 shots she faced in regulation and in overtime, stopped Natalie Spooner, Poulin and Brianne Jenner in the shootout but Agosta and Daoust found the net.

For Canada, however, it was a crushing disappointment.

"It is hard. You feel as though you have let your country down, but you look at it in a bigger picture". They were defeated by Team USA.

Team Canada isn't used to losing in women's Olympic hockey.

The two medals earned by New Zealanders Sadowski-Synnott and Porteous on Day 13 marks only the second and third medals the nation has ever won at the Winter Games.

"We had all the drama and everything", she said.

Third time is the charm! "It's a dream come true". The Olympics use the shootout after a single overtime - 10 minutes in the earlier rounds, and 20 minutes for the gold medal game.
