No team has been able to stop the Golden State Warriors so far in the postseason. General manager Bob Myers made the announcement Thursday, May 25, 2017 though didn’t rule out Kerr coming back at some point if he somehow is healthy enough to do so.

James even brought up the Boston Celtics teams he battled in the play-offs, both as a member of Cleveland and Miami, which featured Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo and head coach Doc Rivers.

The 51-year-old coach took an indefinite leave of absence on April 23 as he continues to deal with complications from back surgery he underwent almost two years ago.

"It's just weird because, on the one hand, Mike has to coach the team as he sees fit, I'm taking part in practices, helping with the messaging, taking part, coaching meetings, but I'm not on the sidelines during games", Kerr said.

Meanwhile Golden State got through the west easily, minus their head coach for more than half the run and arguably their best player, Kevin Durant, in spots. Brown was expected back Tuesday.

"I'd like to tell you I'm ready", Kerr said, addressing reporters after Monday's practice here at the team's facility because his interim coach, Mike Brown, was out with the flu.

Kerr also raved about how Brown has handled this "awkward situation". And so he has to make those decisions as if it's his team, but he's also taking my advice and counsel behind the scenes.

"Those guys are going to challenge me, they are going to challenge our ball club", said James, who last week surpassed Michael Jordan as the all-time play-off leading scorer. So it's not easy, but he's obviously doing a good job. "I'm not sure it's ever happened".

The formula certainly seems to be working, as the Warriors have won 12 straight games in these playoffs and enter their NBA Finals rubber match with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday as prohibitive favorites. Some of the videos from last year's Finals are still relevant.

"I was living those odds", he said.

That move proved prudent, as Kerr wound up missing Game 3 of the first round April 22 and announced the next day he would be out indefinitely after his symptoms "took a turn for the worse" in the prior days.

"I'm surprised too. Are you kidding me?"

Irving scored 23 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists in Game 1 of the 2015 Finals before his injury, but admitted he was in awe of the stage.
