Stokes in fitness race for second ODI

Currently, Australia ranked the No.1 ODI team in the world.

Stokes bowled just two overs against South Africa in his first game since returning from a successful spell in the Indian Premier League for Rising Pune Supergiant, where he was named Most Valuable Player. With Alex Hales and Jason Roy, they have some unsafe players who will be eager to gain form and carry that into the Champions Trophy.

England captain Morgan suggested that the all-rounder was fit and his pain wasn't a serious one. Concerns over Stokes, 25, were balanced by the ruthlessness of this performance from his team.

Trevor Bayliss' side have developed into one of the most formidable ODI teams in the world and maintained their momentum ahead of the Champions Trophy in Leeds.

Morgan and Moeen Ali (77 not out) shared a stand of 117 after England had slumped to 198 for five. The 1st ODI cricket match between England vs South Africa is set to begin today.

The visitors were on track with Hashim Amla (73) and Faf du Plessis (67) scoring half-centuries but both fell in quick succession and later skipper AB de Villiers (45) fell trying to keep up with the run-rate. Total: (all out, 45 overs) 267.

The series continues at Southampton on Saturday and concludes with next Monday s match at Lord s.

They look like they will enter the tournament with momentum and belief. "Like us, the balance is their strength".

Hales was unperturbed by the early loss of his opening partner Jason Roy, who fell for just one when he edged behind off Parnell's first ball of the innings. But soon after he'd deposited Parnell into the stands with a huge six he chased a wide loosener from Andile Phehlukwayo and nicked behind for 61.

At 122 for three in the 22nd over, England had plenty of work in front of them.

Morgan announced himself by lofting Phehlukwayo for six over long-off and received good support from Stokes, with whom he added 68 in 11 overs before Stokes - who later experienced discomfort in his knee - picked out deep mid-wicket. That's when Moeen came to the crease and alongside his captain he ensured there was a power-packed conclusion to the innings.

Duminy and Miller both heaved short balls out to a lone fielder on the ropes, to general bemusement, while Morris botched a reverse sweep off Moeen.

If England were hoping to crank up the pressure with the new ball Amla quickly disabused them of the notion, laying into Mark Wood with some elegant strokes. De Villiers pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.
