Sanchez has just one year left on his Arsenal contract after refusing to sign the club's offer of a new deal and it is believed the Chile forward wants to move to a team in the Champions League.

Sanchez was due to report for pre-season training on Sunday, having been given extended leave following worldwide duty for Chile at the Confederations Cup.

But Sanchez took to Instagram on Friday morning to post a picture of him sat wrapped in a scarf and looking miserable, with the caption "sick".

The 28-year-old posted a picture on his Instagram page on Friday to reveal that he was suffering from sickness, although given that he is now trying to leave the club after turning down Arsenal's attempts to extend his contract beyond the end of next season, plenty of doubt was cast over the severity of his illness.

Despite playing 55 minutes in yesterday's 5-2 thrashing of Benfica, Elneny started in Arsenal's second match of the Emirates Cup; playing a total of 132 minutes in two days.

Asked if there had been developments over Sanchez's future, he replied: "There's no development - he is staying, of course".

"Arsene Wenger says he is determined not to sell him, but he seems determined to leave", Smith told talkSPORT. "We're in touch with him and his doctor". He would have come back tomorrow but he will be here on Tuesday.

But Wenger himself admitted that Alexis really has flu and his return to training will be delayed for a few days, but he refused to reveal any details of his conversation with the ex-Barca man, who is apparently keen to rejoin Pep Guardiola at Man City.

The Guardian reported last week that Paris Saint-Germain are confident of signing Sanchez in a deal worth around €45m (£40.3m) - as the player's contract at the Emirates Stadium will expire next summer. "I can not reveal to you what he says to me always, no. He is flying back as soon as he is in a position to".

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the summer transfer window so we'll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. "At the moment there is nothing special to say about this case".
