Intel renews data center push with launch of Xeon Scalable processors

AIC SB122A-PV, the next generation 1U 10-Bay NVMe Storage Server, used AIC own-developed server board - Pavo, which supports two new Intel Xeon Scalable Processors, with 10G SFP+ connection on the rear I/O.

Today's general availability announcement follows Intel's largest data center early ship program with more than 500,000 Intel Xeon Scalable processors already sold to leading enterprise, high-performance computing, cloud and communication services provider customers. The platform's increased performance is realized through innovations including Intel AVX-512 extensions that can deliver up to 2x FLOPS per clock cycle, which is especially important for HPC, data analytics and security/cryptography workloads. In particular, this highly-anticipated family of CPUs present major benefits to Deep Learning inference and training. Integrated Intel® Omni-Path Architecture (Intel® OPA), provides 100Gbps high-bandwidth and low-latency fabric for HPC clusters.

The Intel Xeon Scalable processor features a new core microarchitecture, new on-die interconnects and memory controllers. This new generation of solutions is architected for exceptional workload-optimized performance and hardware-enhanced security. "Researchers and data scientists will be able to unlock data and scientific insights faster than ever before because of the advancements Intel Xeon Scalable processors bring across compute, storage, memory and I/O".

For this generation of its flagship Xeon chips, Intel changed the way it manages the flow of data across different parts of the processor.

Security without Compromise: Data protection through full encryption has long carried a significant performance overhead.

The Intel Xeon Skylake processors have been out for a while with some of Intel's more friendly customers, but they are generally available as of Tuesday. These systems will now integrate the Intel Xeon Scalable processors, which are created to deliver powerful capabilities for HPC workloads including genomic sequencing, seismic modeling, computational fluid dynamics and high frequency trading.
