Mass suspension of NHIS top officials by Health Minister

Armed mobile policemen have taken over the premises of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Abuja following the discovery of a plan by the suspended Executive Secretary, Yusuf Usman, to forcibly resume duties there using a rented crowd to protest his unceremonious removal. A statement from the ministry of health, on Monday, July 17, said the suspension of the officials was to allow thorough investigation of the reported large scale fraud in the NHIS.

The affected officials are the General Manager, Zonal Coordinator South South Zone, Olufemi Akingbade; General Manager, Finance, John Okon; the General Manager, Human Resources and Administration; Yusuf Fatika, and the Assistant General Manager, Audit, Shehu Adamu.

Yusuf had argued that only the president can suspend him. Isaac Adewole, has suspended more top officials of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The Acting Executive Secretary of NHIS, Attahiru Ibrahim has been directed to ensure the immediate implementation of the suspension order.

Others include; "Mr. Vincent Mamdam, Assistant General Manager, Head Insurance, Mr. Safiyanu Attah, Senior Assistant Officer Marketing, Mr. Owen Udo Udoma, Senior Manager Contribution Management and Mr".

The Minister further urged the probe Committee to be focus, fair and transparent and ignore all sensational happenings.
