President Donald Trump's daughter and senior aide has largely escaped scrutiny while Kushner, her husband, has faced intensifying questions about his failure to disclose meetings with Russian officials and associates during the 2016 campaign and transition to the White House.

There is lying, and then there is what Fox News's Eric Bolling did when he reversed the facts of the Russian Federation story to claim that it was really Hillary Clinton who was colluding with Russian Federation to get dirt on Trump. MSNBC reported later Friday that Samochornov, a translator, also was present.

Some Trump allies are concerned that the president's biggest legal liability isn't the suspicion about his campaign's possible collusion with the Russian government but rather obstruction of justice charges related to his response to the investigation, including his tweets and his decision to fire FBI director James Comey.

Trump Jr. has said no such information was provided by Veselnitskaya, who instead wanted to talk about the separate issue of a US law targeting Russians for human rights abuses known as the Magnitsky Act and countermeasures from Russia prohibiting USA adoptions of Russian children. The woman, Natalia Veselnitskaya, said she is a private lawyer and denies having Kremlin ties.

Akhmetshin maintained that he never worked for Russian military intelligence, or worked for the Russian government.

He adds that Veselnitskaya "left a document behind" after the meeting with Donald Trump Jr. The president has said he was not aware that it took place until very recently.

"He's a US citizen and not working for the Russian government and my client was introduced to him literally at the meeting", Futerfas said.

Trump was asked whether he agreed with Christopher Wray, his nominee to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation, that his son should have called FBI investigators when offered the meeting because it was supposedly coming from a foreign adversary, Russia.

In Washington, Grassley, a key lawmaker investigating Russia's meddling in the election, sent a letter to the younger Trump asking him to testify about his June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower.

According to CNN, Trump Jr., Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, campaign manager Paul Manafort, Veselnitskaya, Akhmetshin and publicist Rob Goldstone, who had helped set up the meeting between Trump and the attorney, have been confirmed to have been in the meeting.

A separate report from stated that an unnamed former Soviet counterintelligence officer was in the Trump Jr. meeting.

"I think any witness who's been asked to testify in Congress should do that", Ryan said.
