Robert Pires says Alexandre Lacazette may take months to settle at Arsenal

Arsenal legend Robert Pires expects Alexandre Lacazette to be a success at the north London club but warns that he may need months to attune himself to the rigours of the Premier League. "But maybe he will need time to adapt", Pires, who was at Arsenal for six years, said.

"Because I came from France, it was heavy and that is why it is hard in the Premier League", Pires said, as quoted by the Mirror.

Lacazette scored on his first Arsenal appearance in a pre-season game against Sydney FC last week, and is likely to face Chelsea in Beijing on Saturday.

The Frenchman has looked decent so far for Arsenal since completing his record move from Lyon this summer and Lacazette is named as the Gunners' main striker for this match.

"If you play in France, Spain or Italy, it is not the same football - especially when you play in England".

"But to make the adaptation, to find the rhythm and the tempo, for me it took six or seven months".

"Maybe he will need time for the adaptation but everyone around him is very important, especially the French connection".

But former France worldwide Pires - who also made the direct move from Ligue 1 to the Premier League - believes it will take time for Lacazette to get used to English football. For me it was the aggression and intensity.

"I remember my first game at Sunderland".

"After 20 minutes sat on the bench I said to myself 'what are you doing here?' because it was very, very hard". I remember one tackle from Patrick Vieira and I thought this football wasn't for me.

"It was very hard and it is about adaptation, it is very hard".

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar and Pires has backed manager Arsene Wenger in his pursuit of the 21-year-old.

Last seasons' PFA Player of the Season N'Golo Kante partners Cesc Fabregas in the centre of midfield while Michy Batshuayi plays up front. He is a good player and a good addition for Arsenal.
