Elliott Harvey, a 26-year-old scientist, was enjoying a live gig at The Phoenix nightclub in late May before he was singled out and attacked by three men.

Police are now calling on any witnesses of the attack and have released CCTV footage of two men they believe can assist with the investigation.

"I don't know why they took offence to me".

A short time later, the men returned, punching the victim to the head, causing him to fall to the ground, where on the ground the men continued punching the victim to the head.

Mr Harvey, from Rosebud, an hour south of Melbourne, first came across the men out the front of the nightclub at about 10pm and said the cowardly punch to his eye happened after they pushed him to the ground.

The three attackers fled from the venue before police arrived.

The victim sustained serious injuries in the assault, resulting in him losing sight in his right eye, having to undergo two operations and not being able to work since the assault. One of the men had a moustache and his hair was pulled back in a pony tail.

Another is described as being aged in his early 20s with shoulder-length dark curly hair.

'My eye has been sown back together and (realigned) thanks to our incredible public health system, ' he posted to Facebook.

Anyone with information on the assault is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
